A Fuso truck with registration number UBF 073B has been seized by customs officials in Kiboga District for transporting smuggled cosmetics hidden within a cargo of coffee husks. The seizure was made during a planned operation on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Officers reported acting on prior intelligence that several bodaboda motorcycles were moving cosmetics to a waiting truck in Kyankwanzi town. A covert team was deployed for surveillance while other units prepared to intercept.
“We stopped and impounded the truck past Kiboga town and subsequently moved it to the Hoima customs yard for further processing of the offence,” stated a URA official.
Inspection of the vehicle uncovered 78 cartons of Pawpaw Body Oil (60 ml) and 8 cartons of Princess Claire Body Lotion (250 ml), all deliberately concealed beneath coffee husks—a known method for disguising illegal items as legitimate agricultural products.
The incident is being handled in accordance with customs legislation, which allows for a fine of up to 5,000 dollars for vehicles involved in smuggling and mandates the destruction of seized contraband cosmetics.
Enock Mwanje, the Enforcement Supervisor for the Albertine region, commended the operation, noting it reflects strengthened community collaboration and more effective border monitoring.
He advised traders to adhere to customs rules, stressing that involvement in illegal trade not only reduces government revenue but may also result in significant personal financial penalties.
